A lost passport. Forgetting your credit card. Missing your flight. Whether big or small, we’ve all experienced a travel mishap or two. Check out our list of the biggest travel mistakes and how to avoid them.
Loosing Luggage
Flight cancelations and delays can lead to lost luggage. Get ahead of the game by packing a change of clothes and any other important items in your carry-on bag. If possible, don’t even check a bag to start. Make sure you have all of the details on your lodging to give to the airline for returning your luggage.
Overpacking
Be mindful of the clothes and shoes you bring. Pack clothes you can wear again and items to mix and match. You’ll want to save some room in your suitcase in case you bring back souvenirs.
Using Your Phone Without an International Plan
If you use your phone as normal while abroad without signing up for an international plan first, you will incur hefty charges. Either sign up for a plan ahead of time or keep your phone in airplane mode and only use it when WiFi is available.
Using a Credit Card With Foreign Transaction Fees
Many credit cards charge a 3 percent foreign transaction fee on all purchases. While this is fine for an emergency situation, for everyday purchases this will add up. Opt for a card with no foreign transaction fees or exchange currency ahead of time.
Everyone makes mistakes. Remember to stay calm and keep a positive attitude when something, big or small, goes wrong.
