Surf Snowdonia is the world’s first inland surfing destination, located in the Snowdonia region of the United Kingdom. Set amid a gorgeous landscape, Surf Snowdonia was built on what was once an industrial site, but has now been reclaimed as an environmentally friendly outdoor attraction for both surf aficionados and families alike.
The surf lagoon produces nearly seven-foot waves that travel for nearly 500 feet before breaking. The lagoon is designed to create waves of different sizes in different places, so advanced, intermediate and beginning surfers can all participate at once without compromising safety. Advanced surfers are advised to stick nearest the central pier, where the waves are highest, while intermediate surfers can congregate around the edges of the lagoon. Beginners can get lessons on the outer corners, where the waves are small and optimal for learning new skills.
Surfing sessions are sold by the hour, with beginner surf sessions starting at about $30 an hour and both intermediate and advanced at about $45 per hour. Intermediate and advanced surfers can choose to purchase packages of hours, which they can use when they please, ranging from two to 20 hours.
So what can you expect for your money? Beginners typically get about 20 waves in an hour and receive board rental as part of the cost. Intermediate surfers will share their surfing area with one other surfer and are allowed to catch every third wave; board rental is also included in the intermediate price. Advanced surfers will see one wave in their area every 90 seconds, and will share their space with two other surfers. They do not receive a free board rental.
