BoomTown fair began in 2009 at a secret location near Bristol, England, where thousands of people came from all over to create a pop-up civilization. Now, attracting more than 38,000 people a year, BoomTown residents create their alternate, no-rules civilization to sing, dance, party and embrace the abnormal within the nine themed districts making up the city from Aug. 11–14.
The nine districts of the city are each a different theme and musical genre: Barrio Loco, Chinatown, Mayfair Avenue, Old Town, Trench Town, DSTRKT 5, Wild West, Whistlers Green and Kidztown.
Barrio Loco is the Latino district for music celebrating hip-hop, bass, house, garage, funk and more. Barrio Loco is a carnival of colors, circus cabaret performances, Dance-Offs and wrestling matches.
Chinatown is a neon, animated atmosphere with ska and punk music, while Mayfair Avenue offers electro-swing, jazz and a bit of high-society games and fun. Old Town consists of an 18th-century Pirates of the Caribbean vibe, while Trench Town hosts reggae, dub step and jungle parties. DSTRKT 5 is a futuristic festival event, while the Wild West district offers bluegrass, folk and a country-themed venue.
Whistlers Green is a uniquely calm location and serves as an escape. This district is perfect for those who want to get creative in a workshop or just walk the open grounds for a break from the party. Kidztown is a specialized venue for children of the BoomTown residents to play and create while their parents party.
Being a BoomTown resident requires a lot of preparation and participation. Costumes are encouraged and camping out, or glamping, is part of the experience.
