The Secret Garden Party is a creative and unique music festival held each summer in the sprawling countryside of Abbots Ripton, England. The Secret Garden Party, or SGP as the English call it, is on a gorgeous stretch of farm near Cambridge that hosts up to 30,000 guests, or “gardeners” each year.
The entire festival is fueled by the support of the gardeners. Their participation in the festival’s theme and creative expression throughout the event is what makes the festival a truly fun and unique community experience.
This year’s theme is “The Gardeners Guide to the Galaxy,” so gardeners have a futuristic mission for planning their costumes accordingly.
Being held in the English countryside, the event can get damp, so campers should expect rain at some point during the party.
Headlining the event this year is Caribou, Air and Maribou State with a slew of musicians, DJs and much more. Beyond the musical talent present at the event, there is always creative expression and spontaneous activities brewing. Many of the gardeners will populate the “action camps” where parties and much more take place.
There are hot tubs, saunas, bars and a new restaurant, Millway’s, curated by head chef Chris Gillard on site. There will also be a variety of accommodations available for campers, from vintage showman caravans to teepees.
The itinerary of the event is free form so guests tend to make their own fun as they go.
Santa Monica, California, has such an incredible array of restaurants and bars, it can be difficult to choose one. Rustic Canyon on Wilshire Boulevard makes it easy to decide; the restaurant manages to clearly set itself apart from the rest.
For most of us, time in the car is “me time.” You can listen to that podcast you’re captivated by, blast that pop song and sing along at the top of your lungs or listen to the next chapter in that biography e-book you’re almost finished. A road trip only amplifies those opportunities. So, next time you’re traveling by road, take the wheel and take control. Opt for a rental car on your next vacation, rather than a rideshare, taxi or public transportation, and enjoy the open road on your own terms.
Many travelers are exchanging their regular home lives for a more exciting life abroad. However, no matter where in the world you visit, money is needed to live a comfortable life. Gaining work experience abroad can diversity a resume and open opportunities worldwide. For travelers who wish to live a more nomadic lifestyle, getting a short-term job in a country is also a great option. This will ensure travelers have enough money to get by and give them experience. Before leaving for a country or while in a foreign land, travelers can use the internet to find jobs or local resources.
One of the best ways to experience and learn more about a culture is by looking for and picking through the local markets. Depending on the destination, markets can be found in the out-of-the-way nooks and crannies of larger cities or can function as attractions on their own merit.
Bleisure — it’s a term we’re all familiar with these days. After all, millennials drive the rising trend, combining business and leisure trips regularly. Take a few days to decompress in a new destination after a hectic schedule of meetings and business.
