Tips / Destination

While Philadelphia may be known for cheesesteaks and pretzels, the City of Brotherly Love is increasingly becoming a culinary destination with an influx of top chefs opening outstanding restaurants in recent years. Unfortunately some of that popularity came with increased prices. However, you can still find great food for even better prices.

The Olde Bar

Housed in the historic Bookbinder’s building, The Olde Bar is a recent addition to celebrity chef Jose Garces’ collection. The happy hour is stellar: buck-a-shuck oysters, $5 bar snacks and drink specials. Stop by Monday–Friday, 5–7 p.m., or Saturday–Sunday, 4–6 p.m., to take advantage.

Federal Donuts

Enjoy a donut, or two, at one of the store’s four locations in the city. Donuts start at $1.50. The Fancy donut menu changes seasonally and starts at $2.50 per donut.

Dim Sum Garden

Located in the city’s Chinatown section, Dim Sum Garden specializes in — you guessed it — dim sum. Dumplings and other small plates are among the most popular items. Fill up for less than $10.

Fountain Porter

Often on local best of lists, the Fountain Porter bar has a dive-bar atmosphere and serves up a tasty $5 burger.

John’s Roast Pork

Considered a close second to Philadelphia’s signature cheesesteak, the roast pork sandwich is a must at John’s Roast Pork. A small costs $6.50

Honorable mention: Stop in a Wawa or convenience store and grab a locally made TastyKake or Peanut Chews.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
