Paramaribo is a foodie paradise thanks to a plethora of delicious food at an affordable price. Here are a few places to check out if you’re eating on a budget.
Roopram
Roopram serves up authentic Indian cuisine in what is essentially a fast food environment — they even have a drive-thru! The roti and chicken are the best in the country.
Squeezy Hot Pot
Squeezy is the go-to spot for hot pot. This Suriname tradition is a must try when in town, so make sure to stop by and fill your stomach with some of the world’s most delicious soup. Be daring and go for the spicy option.
Big-Tex Grill
Big-Tex is basically an American burger-and-wing joint hidden within Paramaribo. Everything here is cooked to perfection and there are more options than you can shake a stick at. It’s great for those craving a taste of home with a touch of local flair.
Anthony’s Corner
For true budget eating during lunch you’ll want to check out Anthony’s Corner. It’s a simple sandwich shop, so don’t expect any frills, but the bread is baked perfectly and the coffee is brewed just right.
Joojse
There’s a debate afoot as to which roti shop is the best in Paramaribo. While I’m inclined to vote for Roopram, many locals claim Joojse is where it is at. It’s certainly worth checking out, and the price is right, so stop by one evening for dinner and cast your vote.
