Brazilian cuisine is undergoing something of a boom in London, and Cabana focuses on meat skewers and street food.

For those who have visited Brazil, you may remember the love of meat and beans, as well as outrageous amounts of carbohydrates from rice, beans, farofa and fries. Cabana takes the best of Brazilian street cooking and brings it to a number of locations around London, in addition to other restaurants in Leeds and Manchester.

I visited the Brixton branch, which is set over two levels on Ferndale Road. The decor is bright and the glass front lets in huge amounts of natural light. If you didn’t plan on visiting Cabana, the sight of the colorful interior would certainly tempt you inside. Alongside pork, lamb, beef and chicken skewers, there are also burgers and a selection of appetizers on offer.

The steak and palmito beef is tender and succulent, accompanied by rice and beans, while the pork tenderloin is equally good. The seasoning is authentic, inspiring thoughts of roadside barbecues along Brazil’s southern coast, and there are even two vegetarian options.

Wash down your food with a classic caipirinha or other cocktails from a decent selection, before digging into an ice cream or frozen yogurt for dessert. The service is attentive and the atmosphere was lively on a pre-Christmas Wednesday night, while the bill came to $70 for two people with cocktails.

For a little slice of Brazil in England, Cabana comes highly recommended.
