The party city of Cancun remains a hugely popular destination for travelers of all stripes.
From opulent 5-star resort hotels to basic backpacker hostels, you can enjoy Cancun whatever your budget. If you’ve not got much cash to spare, you’re better off staying away from the hotel zone and spending time in the center of town.
In Cancun Centro you will find hostels with dorms and private rooms for a fraction of the price of a night in the big hotels. Check out Hostel Mundo Maya or Hotel Alux if you want a private room. Both are within easy reach of the bus station so you can connect to other cities.
Eating away from the tourist areas is also a good idea if you want to save money. Avenida Yaxchilan is home to some decent budget restaurants, including Rincon Cubano. You can also stock up on food to cook at the hostel from the huge Walmart nearby.
Of course you’ll want to hit the beach and experience the magic of Cancun, but get the colectivo minibuses instead of taxis. When it’s time to leave, get a second-class Mayab bus out of town rather than the first-class ADO.
It’s not hard to see Cancun on a budget if you follow these simple tips. Now go and enjoy it.
