Tips / Destination

Prince Edward Island is home to lots of top-notch chefs, farmers, fisherman and culinary treats. Here are a few you won’t want to miss, wherever you’re staying on the 2,185 square miles of island.

Experience PEI Adventures
Tourism provider Experience PEI teamed with Culinary Adventure Co. to offer a selection of culinary adventures. A Farmers’ Market Picnic introduces visitors to local bites and those behind them. A Bar Clamming Adventure outfits travelers with a wetsuit and snorkeling gear, ready for a bar clam search. The Charlottetown Food Tour takes travelers on an exploration of the capital’s best bites. Lastly, the Floating Lobster Boil combines a sunset cruise, fresh lobster and hanging out with a third-generation lobster fisherman.

Culinary Classes
You don’t need culinary aspirations to take advantage of culinary classes at the Culinary Institute of Canada. Newly opened following renovations, the institute offers quite a few half- and full-day classes themed around PEI seafood, libations and more. Plus, the on-site dining room offers gorgeous views of the water.

Other culinary classes are offered by The Table Culinary Studio, where 14 guests experience a culinary workshop and boutique restaurant set inside a historic church. Learn to catch your own lobsters, shuck oysters, farm mussels, cook over an open flame and more.

Partying Like Locals
Kitchen Parties held by Stompin’ Tom Centre Homestead and Schoolhouse are a traditional Atlantic Canadian social event, with lots of food, music and dancing. Beyond these Monday night events, the venue also hosts concerts, open mic nights, dinner theater and performance workshops.

New Drinks
In Montague, the Copper Bottom Brewing Company is new, open everyday with pints and views of the Montague River. On La Serema Farm, visit the Island Honey Wine Company to try the four different mead wines made from fermented honey. Tour the farm, snap Instagram pics of the lavender fields and enjoy your honey wine.

Knitting?
Knitting and dining might seem like an odd combination, but it’s one that works pretty well for the popular Looms, Lambs & Lobsters experience. You start at a local sheep farm for a knitting lesson on an antique-style loom. Then, you head to Ferme Isle Saint-Jean to visit the sheep and taste test some cheeses. Guests end up at The Yellow House for a lobster dinner.
