During a weekend visit to Greenport on Long Island, my group and I wanted to grab a late brunch in town. After browsing several menus online, we decided on The Cheese Emporium by Bruce & Son. The shop serves up breakfast and lunch in addition to selling packaged goods.
Our group of four arrived during lunchtime. The restaurant doesn’t accept reservations, but luckily we were able to sit on the patio and enjoy the beautiful weather. There wasn’t a table for four, and they would not let us push two together, so we sat at adjacent tables.
Despite a tempting drink menu, we opted for a round of waters as we planned to visit a winery after our meal. The breakfast and lunch menus offer a wide variety of dishes. I had a difficult time trying to decide what to order. In addition to breakfast classics, items like avocado toast and lemon ricotta pancakes graced the breakfast menu. The lunch selections were equally as tempting with several tasty-sounding paninis and cold sandwiches. I finally decided on an omelet with salmon, onion and capers. The dish was prepared to order, though it wasn’t an exciting or memorable meal. I had food envy as I watched the other plates arrive to the table, in particular the cubana panini.
Even though I was slightly disappointed with my brunch selection, I would highly recommend The Cheese Emporium by Bruce & Son for the service, selection and ambiance. I hope to return and try something more unique.
