Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

The colonial town of Antigua makes a great base for exploring Guatemala. Read on to find out more about daytrips you can take from the town.

First up is a trip to Hobbitenango, a hotel and restaurant in the hills above town. You don’t have to book a room to come up here for lunch and enjoy a walk around some of the nearby trails. Another option is Earth Lodge, which offers similar attractions slightly further down the same hill.

Get active on a mountain bike tour at El Zur bike park, with 25 kilometers of winding trails. You can arrange bike hire and transport exclusively at Old Town Outfitters in Antigua. Otherwise book an ATV tour of the Panchoy Valley around Antigua to see how the locals live outside the center of town.

Another adventurous trip involves ziplining at Finca Filadelfia, where Antigua Canopy Tours will whizz you through the grounds of the old plantation. For something more relaxing, head to the Mayan ruins at Iximche around an hour from Antigua, or set off early on a daytrip to the market town of Chichicastenango to stock up on souvenirs for your friends and family.
