A terrorist attack targeted Atatürk Airport in Istanbul, Europe’s third-busiest in passenger traffic, yesterday evening. Three armed men entered the airport after arriving via taxi, firing on travelers outside the security checkpoint. After police began firing back, the men detonated suicide bombs at the airport entrance, further inside the airport and within a parking garage, causing a growing number of casualties.
The attack is suspected to originate from either ISIS militants or Kurdish separatists, but neither claim responsibility as of yet.
Flights to and from the airport were originally suspended, but just 12 hours after the attack, approximately two-thirds of canceled flights rescheduled and are departing on a delayed schedule.
As of press time, current death tolls reach 41, with more than 230 injured as reported by CNN.
