Cuba may be known as the home of salsa, son and other traditional music styles, but there is a growing electronic scene in the capital.
Driven by DJs and producers such as Wichy de Vedado and Djoy de Cuba, Havana’s electronic scene has gone from strength to strength in recent years. The aforementioned have been around for years, building a scene that now counts on many younger members too.
One of the newer acts on the block is female duo Pauza, producing since 2012. Another artist to watch is the Dvazz brothers, who make stomping techno.
If remixes are more your thing, you’ll enjoy DJ Thellus. With remixes of party classics such as Boney M and the Bee Gees, it’s fun music for dancing the night away.
As more people become interested in electronic music, there has been a growth in the number of venues that cater to them. The Fabrica de Arte Cubano is known for its diverse programming, which includes house and techno, and you can also catch DJs at Club Tropical, Roma and El Salon Rosado.
Look out for these DJs and clubs when you make your trip to Cuba, and you’ll discover a scene unlike any other in the world.
