You probably remember tossing eggs as a kid with your friends or family, seeing how fart apart you could stand and still catch it without it breaking it your hands, right? Turns out the British turned that silly little game into a full-blown sport.
The World Egg Throwing Federation has hosted the championship games in Swaton, England, since 2005, bringing together teams from all corners of the world to compete. The rules are fairly simple: Each teammate stands across from one another and slowly increases their distance until only one team is left standing.
Of course, that’s not all there is to the event. Participants also compete in Egg Trebuchet and Egg Russian Roulette. The latter, of course, being a rousing game wherein competitors smash hard-boiled eggs on each other’s heads until one unlucky participant gets hit with the lone raw egg.
It’s a messy, exciting event that certainly isn’t designed for neat freaks. Not just anyone can compete; teams spend months out of the year practicing at home to develop the proper throwing techniques to come out on top. The annual Egg-Throwing Championship is held at the end of June and is open to the public and those willing to risk getting yoked.
