Holiday train rides don’t have to be all Santa and sugar-crazed kids pretending they’re on The Polar Express. Enjoy one of these adult-friendly holiday train rides sure to put you in a festive mood.
Grapevine, Texas, (called the Christmas capital of the state) offers a holiday wine train that’s already off to a good start with its adults-only status. You get two glasses of wine with your ticket, passed hors d’oeuvres and live music.
The 1880 Train runs through the hills of South Dakota, and the adults-only spiked version of the holiday train ride comes with spiked hot cocoa in a keepsake mug. Plus, you can buy additional mulled wine before departing, and bring it onboard.
In West Sacramento, Calif., combine a holiday train ride with gourmet dining. Though not adults-only (children ages 13 and up are allowed), the ride is pretty adults-oriented. The three-course dinner includes a glass of wine and the menu is inspired by the holiday season, with plenty of root vegetables and pumpkin.
