Finding Sanctuaries Anywhere

Even if you enjoy and fully embrace the uncertainty of travel, the inevitable stress can get to the most seasoned veteran. Finding ways to maintain serenity amid the excitement and momentary aggravations will provide a more enjoyable experience overall. They may not always work, but there are a few strategies to employ when trying to regain your balance while on the move:.

Seek out quiet places. This is especially important if you are traveling with a group, scheduling trips to temples, churches or gardens is a great way to build in literal and figurative sanctuaries while also seeing parts of your target city or country. This way, even if your fellow travelers aren’t in the mood for a little quiet contemplation, everyone has something to do.

Journaling is a common practice for many people and it can be a great resource for calm. If this is a tool you use primarily for expressing thoughts or frustrations, try to turn a portion of it into a place in which to express gratitude. It has been shown taking a few minutes out of each day to articulate things for which you are thankful lowers stress significantly.

Lastly, making time for meditation or prayer on a daily basis is important. If you have a difficult time concentrating, then meditation podcasts are key. If you have the time to walk and listen, then even better, but at the very least take 10 minutes a day whenever possible to meditate quietly, clear your mind and take a few deep breaths.
