Frasca Food & Wine in Boulder, Colorado

Boulder, Colo., is a haven for outdoor sports enthusiasts, from mountain biking and hiking to rock climbing and skiing. The town’s focus on and passion for alternative medicine and wellbeing also make it one of the healthiest destinations on the list.

Reviews / Restaurant

Frasca Food & Wine isn’t your typical Italian restaurant. Crafted by master sommelier Bobby Stuckey and chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson, the posh eatery features cuisine from a specific region of Italy. The menu is comprised of food primarily created in the sub-alpine Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Because of this, it stands out among a packed crowd in Boulder’s ever-expanding dining scene.

An evening at Frasca Food & Wine is not cheap — in fact, it’s roughly $100 per person for a quattro piatti, or four-course meal. Thankfully the quality matches the price. We started off with the carpaccio as an appetizer, which was absolutely scrumptious. From there, we moved onto the short rib that was cooked to perfection. We followed that with tricholoma mushroom, and a dessert of mango tartara. The entire meal was delicious and without fault.

The service was another area where Frasca Food & Wine excels. Our server was well versed in the wine offerings, of which we may have gone overboard. They were perfectly paired with the meal, thanks to his suggestions.

If there were one area where I’d have to nitpick, I’d say the décor could use a little work. Not because it was unappealing but, rather, seemed kind of understated for the experience and price range of the restaurant. I expected the atmosphere to feel more upscale, but it was rather laidback — which could be a plus or negative, depending on your preference.
