A new glamping site opened in Big Sur, Calif., that aims to incorporate luxury with camping. The resort, Redwood Canyon Glampsites, is part of Ventana Big Sur, set amid the Central Coast’s impressive landscape. The resort just underwent a multimillion dollar revamp and reopened Oct. 20.
The space was originally called the Ventana Inn & Spa, opened in 1975. In its history, notable Hollywood stars like Steve McQueen, Ali McGraw, Joel Schumacher, Robert DeNiro, Barbra Streisand, Julia Roberts and Oprah Winfrey were among the guests. The resort was closed for extensive construction and the new space features 59 refreshed guestrooms, suites and villas, all under new ownership.
Guests who glamp have access to custom mattresses, luxury linens and comfortable accommodations in 15 canvas tents set in a redwood forest. The tents offer views of the impressive trees and the 20-acre canyon. Fire pits, running water, custom picnic baskets and more are among the add-ons.
A glamping bath house has teak-enclosed showers, heated floors and marble vanities. There’s also a nightly turndown service with hot cocoa and tea, s’mores kits and hot water bottles to warm the sheets. Glamping guests can visit the resort’s pools and fitness center.
