Safety

Next time you head out on a bike ride, protect against skin cancer with Bouclier, a first-of-its-kind visor that attaches to your favorite helmet for flexible, sleek sun safety.

Founder Lydia Callaghan developed the product after her father lost his battle to melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer.

“My father loved to be outside — it’s what made him feel alive,” said Callaghan, a former software development director who has held positions at Forbes and TheStreet. “He grew up on the beaches of Sydney, Australia, before sunscreen was widely available. The memory of my dad’s illness created a deep commitment to find a better answer — I don’t want anyone else to lose a loved one to this preventable illness.”

Bouclier worked with a team of industrial designers and product engineers from world-renowned firms to create the visors, capable of blocking 98 percent of the sun’s rays. The visors easily install on most visor-less helmets, with the ability to pivot up and down for maximum flexibility. For added convenience, the visors are also fully detachable and provide full peripheral vision and breathability.

The company launched a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this summer, with 348 backers pledging more than $33,000 to help bring the unique project to life.

Those interested in purchasing the Bouclier can sign up for the waiting list online.
