Made famous as the inspiration for the iconic book and film The Shining, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colo., offers several scary events for the Halloween season. There is no documentation of when spooky occurrences first took place at the hotel, though for years guests reported lights turning on and off, having their luggage unpacked and having items moved around their room. If you stay on the fourth floor, the hotel’s most haunted, you might hear children running up and down the halls laughing.
To celebrate Halloween, guests looking for the ultimate haunted experience can book a Ghost Adventure deal. The special includes a guaranteed fourth-floor room, a K2 meter for ghost detection, a glow-in-the-dark Stanley Hotel ghost and a REDRUM mug per person.
In addition, The Stanley hosts three Halloween-themed events. On Oct. 24, attend a Murder Mystery Dinner. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $160 per person or $299 per couple. Fans of The Shining, celebrate The Shining Ball on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. Purchase your ticket for $175 per person or $325 per couple. At 8 p.m. on Halloween join in the fun of the annual Masquerade Ball. Tickets cost $110 per person or $199 per couple.
The Stanley plays The Shining on a constant loop on one television channel year-round.
