Brought to you by the same people behind America’s Best Dance Crew, Hip Hop International convenes in San Diego Aug. 2 for the biggest hip-hop dance competition in the world. This high-energy event has helped launched the careers of some of the industry’s leading dancers and choreographers, many of whom have gone on to work with Justin Timberlake, Cirque Du Soleil, Rihanna and more.
From Aug. 2–3, Harrah’s Resort will host the USA Championship, the winners of which will compete in the World Hip Hop Dance Championship, held Aug. 4–9 at Viejas Arena in San Diego State University. More than 50 nations will be represented for the competition, which also includes the World B-Boy Battle in addition to the main team-based competition. The b-boy tournament is one-on-one, and divided into breaking, popping, locking and all-style divisions. Dancers can also attend workshops directed by leading dancers/choreographers in the industry. Some of this year’s pros include Parris Goebel, Chachi Gonzales and Scott Forsyth.
Between competitions, there will be a chill down lounge, a merchandise expo, artist performances and a presentation of the Living Legend of Hip Hop Award. Past winners have included DJ Kool Herc, Randy Jackson and Grandmaster Caz. To learn more about the event, visit hiphopinternational.com.
