Trends / Food & Drink

These days, everyone works crazy hours in and outside of the home. Staying healthy with homemade meals is not the easiest task, especially if there is more than one person in your household. There are ways to bridge this gap. Anything from hot and cold food bars at the local grocery store or prepping a crockpot meal can get you through the week. There are also food preparation services like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh. These services assist with cooking by turning your kitchen into a food show with pre-portioned ingredients and clear, detailed recipes. And yet, there is another option that involves trying a ready-made food service and paying someone to actually cook for you.

This is the upscale alternative to living in a co-op or with roommates with whom you can rotate cooking responsibilities. That scenario can have its ups and downs, where as employing a ready-made meal service two or three nights a week gives you the reliability you need and the home-cooked meals you crave. These meals are made daily and come to you chilled so all you have to do is heat and eat.

Every city has its own services. In Chicago, some of the more popular options include Kitchfix and Cooked Chicago. These services offer customized, organic foods that cater to a variety of dietary niches. In Philadelphia, Home Appétit and Grateful Plate are incredibly popular. Nothing beats cooking yourself, but these represent another option for staying healthy in an increasingly hectic everyday world.
