Vacation rental search engine HomeToGo released its 2021 State Park Index, ranking the best U.S. state parks for escaping crowds. There are more than 10,000 state parks covering 18.6 million acres of land across the country.
The ranking is based on four data points: solitude, wildlife, activities and accommodations. The solitude score tracks annual visitors to the park and its overall size. Wildlife tracks the number of observed plants and animals at the park. The activities score analyzes the variety of activities available, including hiking, fishing, biking and kayaking. Accommodations factor the amount of overnight accommodations within a 30-mile radius and the average nightly price.
