Hotel Sofitel Luxembourg Europe

The Hotel Sofitel Luxembourg Europe is located in the Kirchberg area of the city, surrounded by new builds and, well, not much else. You’ll have to walk about a half-mile to get into the heart of the city, but if you’re okay with that, you’ll do fine. The area is entirely walkable, and there are even some great views on the way. The only downside is the distance you’ll be from restaurants and bars (other than the few located in the hotel) in the event you want to grab a quick bite.

Much of the hotel is renovated, but renovations are still ongoing until July. This means there is a chance you may end up in a non-renovated room. While clean, spacious and comfortable, the non-renovated rooms do boast an entirely outdated color palette in a distasteful red scheme with wooden furnishings throughout.

However, they are huge, especially for guestrooms in Europe. My superior guestroom offered a spacious bathroom with a separate toilet, deep tub and large vanity. There was plenty of closet space, as well as counter space, with two work stations, including one small space that also held the television, as well as a stand-alone desk. There was plenty of extra seating, with the two work station seats and a separate sitting area near the large window.

The view of the nearby buildings isn’t impressive, particularly with the construction going on during my stay, but you’re not near enough to any of the other buildings that the view is dismal and claustrophobic.

Note: There are smoking rooms available at the hotel and, while the number is small (14 out of the 109 guestrooms), it’s something to keep in mind.

Amenities such as free WiFi were much appreciated, and room service was courteous, prompt and satisfactory. During my stay, a large event took up much of the common spaces in the hotel, so I ordered drinks to my room, and they arrived within minutes, alongside several snacks.

Again, this hotel’s primary issue goes back to its non-renovated rooms, hopefully all renovated by this summer.
