Athens’ Hotel Titania benefits from a central location, within an easy walk of several highlights in Athens, including the thriving shopping and dining district of the Plaka and the ruins of the Acropolis hill, where the famous Parthenon sits.
The hotel is aging, and a little rough around the edges, but it’s a perfectly reasonable place to lay your head at night. The hallways are fairly quiet despite the doors not keeping out much noise and despite there being a significant number of rooms for a hotel smack in the middle of a major European city.
Still, the 5-star description on the website (as well as the shiny photos) seems like a stretch. Clearly not all of the rooms have been redone, and while the lobby sparkles, the dining room where breakfast and a buffet dinner are served, as well as the conference rooms, have not seen updates in decades.
The food is a letdown on all fronts. The rooftop Olive Garden, despite its stunning view of the city and the Acropolis, serves mediocre food at rip-off prices. Breakfast is decent, and the buffet dinner was easily forgettable. You’re better off finding a restaurant nearby than eating here.
