World Art Day, April 15, is the perfect excuse to visit a new destination and, more specifically, a new destination’s art scene. Fort Myers, Florida, beckons with plenty to do and see.

Enjoy the Florida weather and take yourself on a self-guided tour of the city’s murals, brought to you in part by the long-standing Fort Myers Mural Society, which will unveil 10 new Florida murals throughout the region this year alone. Be sure to download the Society’s Art Stumble app before you arrive. The app will help you find not only murals, but also galleries and a range of artistically important or interesting attractions.
Want to see some museum-level work, but don’t want to head indoors just yet? Try the outdoor art and history museum at Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, with its nearly 60 murals. The Art Center hosts a variety of events, so be sure to see what’s playing while you’re in town.

If you arrive a few days in advance, you can also check out the River District Alliance’s Art Walk, held the first Friday of each month. The walk starts at 2247 First S., and offers the chance to get to know local art and artists.
