Traveling during the chilly winter season can involve layers and layers of clothing and rapid temperature changes from the stuffy, heated airport to the cold airplane interior to the even colder air temperatures once you’ve arrived at your destination. Figuring out what to wear during these long-haul journeys can be confusing, so a few tips below will help you bundle up while also maintaining your ability to breathe.
If you find yourself rushing through airports and running to catch taxi cabs, the mountain of fabric you may be wearing will inevitably lead to scorching interior body temperatures. Thus, opt for a lightweight material for the shirt or pants closest to your skin. On top of this breathable layer, add a lightweight sweater and your favorite warm jacket. Layers are the key to temperature variability.
Do not underestimate the power of a warm hat. With quickly changing temperatures, a hat can be a wonderful way to quickly warm your head, and thus the rest of your body. Choose a topper that covers your ears and is made of a thin material. The same can be said for a warm pair of gloves and cozy scarf.
When considering keeping your feet warm and cozy, forego the heavy wool socks and toss into your luggage a few pairs of lightweight socks to keep your feet warm and avoid bulk. You can always double up on socks if you anticipate a particularly cold locale.
