Tips / Travel

If you are an avid cyclist, you have probably encountered this issue before and have somehow navigated the fees associated with traveling with your bike on a plane. If you are new to this hobby and are only starting to fly with a bike, then there is plenty of advice out there to guide you through the process. Some things you need to know include:

Purchase a Bike Bag

This can be done at your local bike shop or online. The advantage of going in-person if this is your first purchase is you can get some guidance regarding the best bag for your bike.

Knowing Your Bike

You will need to know the weight and dimensions of your packed bike in order to get a proper price of how much it will cost.

Call the Airline

If you already bought a ticket, call them to let them know you will be traveling with oversized luggage and to secure pricing. If you have not already booked a ticket, keep in mind some airlines have better bike policies than others. In the past, JetBlue, Frontier and Southwest have been the most affordable airlines for national travel.
