Tips / Safety

ATV tours can be an excellent way to see a new destination. However, keep a few things in mind before you head out on the open trail to ensure your experience is as fun and safe as possible.

Before booking a tour, read the provider’s reviews. You’ll want to know the equipment is well maintained, and they practice important safety precautions. You also want to know what to expect when you arrive, as each tour is different and you may want to prepare differently according to what your tour includes.

Decide if you’d rather go solo or in a group. Group tours have their perks — you experience a destination with other travelers and you have a (hopefully) helpful guide to show you around and answer any questions. Not to mention, if something goes wrong with your ATV, or you run into a sticky situation, someone will be there to help. On the other hand, you may want to move along at a faster or slower pace than the group, or you may want to take lots of photography/video without other tourists getting in the way.

Choose the option that feels right for you, taking safety into consideration. If you’ve never driven an ATV before, or don’t trust your sense of direction, you may not want to go it alone.

Depending on your destination, you’ll want to dress the part. Slather on sunscreen or pull out a comfortable jacket. Wear comfortable shoes and choose clothing options that you’re not afraid to get a little dirty.

Be sure to bring a small pack filled with extra sunscreen (if needed in your location) and bottled water. Leave with a fully charged phone and a map of the area, as well, just in case you get a little lost.

ATV tours are an activity every traveler can enjoy, with the proper precautions and safety measures.
