Tips / Destination

Think a trip to Vermont and you likely imagine a snow-covered getaway filled with skiing, snowboarding and cozy fires at the lodge. However, Vermont has plenty to offer in the summer, including golfing and hiking, festivals and more.

Head to Killington Resort for a newly installed outdoor ninja obstacle course. Called the Woodward WreckTangle, it has nine sections of obstacle courses to conquer, from balance beams and cargo nets. A year-round pass to the resort gets you access to not only the new course, but also unlimited lift and trail access.

At Smugglers’ Notch Resort, play larger-than-life outdoor games with human foosball and life-sized chess, pool, pickleball and bocce. For families, STEM activities for kids allow young learners to try their hands at problem-solving using engineering and biology skills.

Every Thursday night in the summer at Bolton Valley includes a local-inspired dinner with Vermont craft brews, as well as an 18-hole disc golf social tournament. The tournaments also take place Sundays and winners receive a cash prize. The summer dinner series runs through Oct. 11, and the disc golf tees off at 6 p.m. on Thursdays and 12 p.m. on Sundays.

For other disc golf-lovers, Magic Mountain offers a nine-hole course with another nine holes added over the July 4 weekend. Also in July, the TimberQuest High Trees Adventure Park re-opens with high-flying adventure for every age. Other summer activities include summer Friday movie nights and a Saturday summer music series.

Okemo Mountain Resort expanded its Evolution Bike Park, a lift-served mountain bike trail with 1,600 feet of vertical. The trails are accessed via a six-passenger flying sofa open even to non-bikers who just want to take in the view.

Burke Mountainvermont is also a mountain biking hot spot, with trail-side accommodations. The Burke Mountain Hotel & Conference Center provides 116 suites with amenities such as inside bike storage, hot tubs and an outdoor heated pool.
