No matter how much the photos have been edited or how beautiful the lobby is, sometimes hotel rooms are not all they seem. If you find yourself stuck in an inhospitable environment with a low chance of getting a restful night’s sleep, consider the following pieces of advice to make your stay more enjoyable.
When booking … ask for a hotel room that does not face the street or the pool, if possible. Echoes will bounce right from these areas into your window. If the property has social gathering areas (banquet rooms, lounges, bars) try for a room a few floors up from the ground floor.
When packing … toss in a pair of earplugs and maybe even an eye mask. These items will serve double duty both in a noisy hotel room and onboard a plane.
Once in the room … don’t be afraid to complain about noise. Some travelers prefer to be polite and endure rather than causing a fuss, but mentioning a noisy client to the front desk will most likely result favorably as the noisy guests will be warned sternly.
If you have a smartphone, chances are you have the ability to download a free app that plays white noise while you sleep. A fan or air conditioner can also mimic these sounds and attempt to drown out the sounds that surround you and impede sleep.
Sweet dreams, and don´t forget to hang up the ¨Do Not Disturb¨ sign!
