Tips / Destination

So you have a layover at Vancouver International Airport. If you only have a few hours, don’t head all the way into the city; stay in Richmond (where the airport happens to be located) and have a great layover. All you have to do is take the Canada Line from the airport, with service every few minutes, and it takes you straight to central Richmond.

What to do once you get there?

One awesome option is to explore Richmond’s Dumpling Trail. Some cities have beer, others have wine, Richmond has dumplings. The trail offers 20 restaurants hand-selected by the city’s tourism team and they represent Richmond’s Asian culinary scene with a variety of dining experiences, from food stalls to luxury restaurants.

Pick a few close to one another and give them a try! You’ll be glad you did.

If your layover takes place during evening hours, don’t miss the Richmond Night Market, which even further showcases Richmond’s Asian heritage with more than 100 food stalls and 200 retail vendors. You’ll find all your favorite Asian dishes and you’re sure to discover a few new ones, too. Just make sure to stop by the ATM before leaving the airport as most of the market is cash-only.

If all this food made you thirsty, try a flight before your flight. You don’t have to get boozy to enjoy the nectar of Richmond, though. Goodbowl, for example, serves up flights of nutritious juices, like beet and apple or spinach and kale. If you’re not opposed to a few brews, try Fuggles & Warlock for some unique and delightfully named concoctions that nicely reflect the Pacific Northwest’s beer styles.
