How To's

Do you and your significant other share the love of a film genre? Did you connect over mutual admiration of a book? What better way to express your shared interests than by throwing a theme wedding.

First thing’s first: Pick a theme. Whether you both love travel, jazz music, beer, Game of Thrones, baseball, Disney movies or video games, you can translate this common interest into a unique and special wedding.

Big items like music, food and venue are no-brainers. Keep in mind, your theme can be carried out in the small details as well. Choose invitations that speak to your theme. The jet-setting couple can send invitations designed to look like passports. Etsy features many customizable wedding invites from its sellers. The bride, groom and wedding party can play dress up with a particular clothing style. Art deco- and flapper-inspired designs are perfect for a theme like The Great Gatsby. Obsessed with a particular color? Have a color theme with accents from the smallest detail (the groom’s socks) to the largest (reception décor). Show off your theme with your wedding cake. Choose a striking design like a colorful LEGO-inspired cake. Or keep the cake simple and add fun cake toppers like two zombies from The Walking Dead. For an inexpensive wedding favor from the book-loving couple, stock up on used books from a thrift store or flea market and let guests pick one to take home.

Whatever theme you choose for your big day, remember to have fun with it and make it your own!
