World-leading expedition cruise line Hurtigruten announced its new coastal Norway excursions for the 2018–19 season, and are now implementing coastal expedition teams on Norwegian voyages to share firsthand knowledge about wildlife, natural phenomena and history.

More than 35 of the excursions for the upcoming season are brand new. Three of the highlights include the Sami Adventure in Tromsø, Silent Whale Exploring and Winter Expeditions in the Arctic Wilderness.

“An expedition sailing with Hurtigruten is about exploring, not cruising. Whether it is under the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights, we offer a premium floating basecamp that works as a stepping stone to adventurous and educational experiences with Norway’s unparalleled natural sites as the majestic backdrop,” said Daniel Skjeldam, CEO, Hurtigruten.

The Sami Adventure offers an authentic experience with the indigenous Sami people of Europe’s most northern regions. Guided by hosts, guests will explore the Dankarvågvatn nature reserve, a frozen lake by reindeer sledge or snowmobile, go ice fishing and more.

The Silent Whale Exploring excursion offers whale watching on an eco-friendly hybrid electric schooner, from which guests can get close to the action with minimal disturbance to marine wildlife, such as orcas and humpback whales. A glimpse of the Northern Lights is also possible on this excursion.

Finally, the Winter Expedition in the Arctic Wilderness is a 24-hour excursion including a one-night stay at the Kongsfjord guesthouse, with views of the fjords and countryside. From there, guests embark on a day of dogsledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing.
