Where else to celebrate the most haunted month of the year than one of the world’s spookiest, most interesting and most entertaining cemeteries? Check out our favorites below.
The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague is the second oldest in Europe, created in the 15th century, and visitors can still see grave markers which date back to that time period. Antiquity aside, the main scare factor to the Jewish Cemetery is how many headstones are crammed into one tiny space, as graves were piled on top of one another, as many as a dozen in one burial plot.

One of the most famous cemeteries in the United States is St. Louis No. 1. Located near the French Quarter, it’s home to aboveground burial spaces, some tracing their history back to the 1700s. Approximately 1,000 bodies are crammed into the small space (about one block).
In addition to being straight-up gorgeous, Père-Lachaise in Paris houses quite a few notable names. Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde are two of the most prominent. The beautifully designed cemetery is the perfect place for a slightly eerie stroll on a crisp Parisian fall afternoon.

London’s Highgate Cemetery was built when other burial grounds began to contaminate the city’s drinking water. The romantic architecture and haunting design keeps visitors coming back to visit this morbid spot. The cemetery is split into two different sections. The East Cemetery is open for public exploration for a fee, and its most notable resident is Karl Marx. The West Cemetery requires a tour, but it’s well worth it, as it boasts the most impressive architectural features.
