KLM Royal Dutch Airlines became the first airline to offer booking services through WhatsApp, the free instant messaging service for smartphones.
The airline offers customers booking confirmation, check-in notification, boarding pass, flight status updates and the ability to ask questions in 10 different languages on WhatsApp, via the new WhatsApp Business application. The service rolled out in several countries and will become more widely available in the weeks to come.

We want to be where our customers are and, given the one billion users, you have to be on WhatsApp. With an account verified by WhatsApp, we offer our customers worldwide a reliable way to receive their flight information and ask questions 24/7. This truly is a major next step in our social media strategy.”
Messaging is secure, and can only be read by the customer and KLM. Customers will see a green checkmark badge next to the KLM contact name, ensuring the company is a verified WhatsApp business partner. Customers can also directly contact KLM’s social media service agents via WhatsApp. The service is available to those who book tickets and check in via KLM.com and opt to receive information via WhatsApp.
This isn’t the airline’s first time integrating with new technologies. In September, KLM launched its KLM Care Tag, a smart audio luggage tag for select passengers traveling to Amsterdam.
