With the advent of Argodesign’s Lalala, wearable technology will take a giant leap forward. The device, which resembles a futuristic bluetooth headphone, is an aural filter combined with a smartphone technology. It would allow the wearer to design their auditory input through selective hearing, sound filtering, voice modification and more.
The Lalala would allow its user to adjust the ambient volume of a setting and isolate an auditory input. Say, for example, the user is in a crowded hall and having difficulty hearing someone. The Lalala will let the user isolate the speaker and enhance their sound while muting or reducing the volume of unwanted noise.
The device features motion-tracking technology and a built-in camera, which allow it to follow a source and even pick up and interpret gestures and visual commands and recognize objects.
But the Lalala is also designed to connect the user the way a smartphone might and mimic the social behavior of tuning out. Similarly, the earpiece would carry contacts, music and apps. A future iteration is planned to provide instantaneous translation. It also records a history of everything you hear.
Argodesign admits the Lalala is in part a provocation to demonstrate that new technologies have both positive and negative implications. The ability to filter what a user hears gives the user a lot of control, which could be easily abused.
Founder and chief creator of Argodesign Mark Rolston intends for the Lalala to replace smartphones. He has projected the device may become a reality in as little as a year or two. Here’s to hoping we get a glimpse of the Lalala soon in stores.
With the Lalala, the Argo team wants users to, “Hear life as you intend it.”
