Though North Carolina doesn’t have the greatest track record when it comes to LGBT rights, you’ll find Raleigh is pretty inclusive thanks to a massive influx of transplants over the years.
There are two primary gay clubs in the city, the most popular being Legends. It’s a gay club and performance theater with a dance floor, video bar, game room and patio popular among the younger gay crowd in the city. Your other option for a night out is Flex, a club in a basement-like setting host to numerous drag shows and country line dancing on occasion. For a more relaxed vibe, there’s Fifteen, a stylish piano bar that often attracts an older crowd.
The annual NC Pride Festival happens every year in the Triangle with various parades and parties happening around both Raleigh and Durham, making it one of the most inclusive cities in the south.
For coffee, be sure to check out The Third Place, a cute little shop with an eclectic personality and pretty big LGBT clientele.
Overal,l Raleigh is an excellent place for gay travelers to relax and have a good time, but you might find more excitement in nearby Durham, which is known for its more artsy and hipster vibe.
