Traveling in upstate New York, or even to Toronto, Montreal or another regional Canadian destination? If Niagara Falls is only a short daytrip away from where you’re staying, make a point to stop by for a quick peek. It’s one pit stop you won’t regret! Here’s how to make the most of a quick visit.
Go to the Canadian Side
If you’re on the U.S. side of the Falls, take the extra time to see things from the Canadian vantage point. The view’s a little bit bigger, and well worth it.
Stick Around After Dark
If you’re visiting in the summer, be sure to stick around after dark. Every weeknight in the summer, you can catch fireworks over the Falls at 10 p.m.
Book a New View
Once you get the basics down, try seeing the Falls from a different angle. There’s, of course, the boat tours and the chance to walk underneath the Falls themselves, but what about a helicopter tour? Pick whichever suits your fancy … or both! Want to stay safely inside? Head up to the top of the Skylon Tower’s observation deck, or take a ride on the Niagara Skywheel.
Get a Little History
Stop in the Niagara Falls History Museum, and learn how this mammoth landmark affected the surrounding region and beyond. For example, did you know the Falls played a role in the War of 1812? While the museum isn’t right within reach of the Falls, it is just steps from Drummond Hill Cemetery, site of the bloodiest battle of the war.
See the Rest of Niagara
With an attraction like Niagara, it’s only fitting a tourist haven popped up in the near vicinity. While not all entirely culturally significant, the remainder of the town of Niagara does offer plenty of convenient fun, food and places to stay. Enjoy some local dining with great views, the local brewery and regional wines.
