Memorial Day is a national holiday to remember those who served in the country’s armed forces and paid the ultimate sacrifice. It is also a day many people travel, due to the long weekend. If you don’t have any plans lined up for Memorial Day, check out these great events.

Wine and Food Experience, New Orleans

Hundreds of restaurants and wineries join forces for the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, meaning the city is full of excellent fare to try throughout the weekend. Also this weekend is the Annual Greek Festival, so there will be no shortage of culinary delights.

National Memorial Day Parade, Washington, D.C.

Celebrate the holiday in our nation’s capital at the National Memorial Day Parade. It’s the largest Memorial Day event, drawing hundreds of thousands in tribute to those who served. Explore the nation’s monuments and museums to commemorate the holiday.

Flower Drop and Air Show, Palm Springs, Calif.

Join the Palm Springs Air Museum in saluting the troops with a beautiful flower drop ceremony. Watch the planes fly above and drop more than 3,000 red and white carnations from a B-52 Mitchell Bomber. There is also a beer garden for adults to enjoy the day and weather.

Annual Parade and Fireworks, Chicago

Head to Chicago for a full weekend of celebration. Chicago is home to one of the country’s largest Memorial Day parades. The event, held on Saturday, includes a wreath-laying ceremony in Daley Plaza to kick off the festivities.
