Motown Musem’s Expansion Plans

A Detroit museum dedicated to the history of Motown music will undergo a massive $50 million expansion. The popular attraction tells the story of the city’s signature music. It’s located on West Grand Boulevard in the house where Berry Gordy started Motown Records. Visitors can see where Gordy lived and where he set up the famous Studio A for recording artists like the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops and the Jackson Five.

Now, the museum will see a massive overhaul, expanding into a 50,000-square-foot space that has dynamic, state-of-the-art exhibits and a performance theater. There are teams collecting artifacts for the museum, as well as working on telling the stories of recording stars like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson.

The museum will also transform surrounding neighborhoods, providing employment and a center of community pride. By becoming a top-notch destination befitting its history, the museum hopes to raise the profile of Detroit as an internationally attractive spot to visit. It expects to see tens of thousands of visitors as Detroit’s momentum as a destination increases.
