Head to Auckland and you’ll find a plethora of nightlife options aimed at everyone from backpackers to those seeking upscale cocktail bars.
Locals tend to hang out at the bars around Viaduct Harbour, Queen Street and Britomart, where there are often DJs playing. At the harbor, there are great views from bars such as Snapdragon, Cowboys and Danny Doolans, and you’ll have a great time at Spitting Feathers and The Bluestone Room on Queen Street.
When it comes to Britomart, try the Vietnamese restaurant-cum-cocktail bar Xuxu or the Tyler Street Garage. The Britomart Country Club is another top spot with an outdoor patio space.
LGBTQ travelers will be pleased to hear Auckland has a good gay scene. It’s centered around K Road, short for Karangahape Road, and the main bars include Eagle Bar, Family Bar and Urge. There are also drag shows at Cabaret and Legend, as well as Caluzzi Bar.
If you want to check out some comedy, head to The Classic Comedy and Bar. National and international comics do their thing here, so check out the listings and you might find some big names.
Auckland is a great night out, and there are loads of places to go. Keep your eye out for happy hours or backpacker bars if you’re on a budget, and enjoy yourself Kiwi-style.
