Oscar Party Tips

The Academy Awards air tonight, and an Oscar party is a great tradition to start. Throwing one does not need to involve much planning. The first decision you must make, however, is whether or not you really want to watch the awards show at all. This will determine how large a party you should throw. Having too many people over might necessitate you play host and you could miss most of the show if you actually enjoy watching it.

Another point to consider is inviting people over for the red carpet, the perfect opportunity to act as fashion police while getting everyone set up with drinks and appetizers. No matter what you do, print out ballots and have everyone vote on the major categories. This gets everyone engaged and at least half paying attention. You may want to get some prizes for the winners, even if it is just a good bottle of wine.

Throwing a party is probably something you are familiar with and keeping the food simple or ordering in is not a bad idea. If you do want to personalize your experience, invest in a signature drink: something gold for the occasion or name it after Oscar himself, or one of your favorite Oscar winners. No one will turn down a martini named Bette-r Davis and, after two drinks, no one will remember the name any way!
