Airplanes are one of the best places for a quick (or long) spot of sleep, but it’s not always easy to find comfort in an upright position surrounded by hundreds of strangers and odd noises. The next time you’re hoping for a quick siesta onboard a flight, remember to pack these items to ensure a peaceful sleep among the clouds.
Eye Mask
With a comfortable eye mask, block out visual distractions such as cabin light fluctuations or that pesky sunrise. This accessory also can serve as the universal symbol for avoiding awkward conversations with seatmates.
Ear Plugs or White Noise App
Although airplanes provide their own soundtrack of soothing white noise courtesy of the engines, the steady stream of sounds can be interrupted by the captain’s announcements, the attendant call bell or a crying baby. Ear plugs help block these noises, or go one step further and download a white noise app to plug into while in flight.
Neck Pillow
Myriad styles and forms of neck pillows all promise perfect comfort, but before buying one at the airport gift shop, think about your sleeping style. If you need extra assistance sleeping upright, you may need a pillow designed for reclining your whole upper body as opposed to just your neck.
Scarf and Socks
Airplane environments can be unpredictable and can constantly change depending on the stage of the flight. Prepare for all elements with a cozy wrapping scarf and a pair of warm socks.
