TripTogether, the leading social site and mobile app for finding companions and friends while traveling alone overseas, offers international travelers a useful guide on how to reduce luggage and travel lighter.
“To really explore, you need to travel light. A lot of people pack items that they simply won’t need,” said Anthony Volpe, spokesperson, TripTogether.
Here are five tips from the travel site for packing light:
- Don’t pack half your wardrobe because many places have public laundry facilities.
- Roll your clothes, don’t fold them, because rolled garments take up less space and allow you to more easily organize your bag.
- Use a carry-on of the maximum size allowable, as not checking luggage and waiting for baggage claim allows you to exit airports much faster.
- Make a list of items essential for your trip after looking at weather forecasts and your itinerary so you don’t pack useless items and waste space.
- Pack undergarments, towels and t-shirts that are made from hi-tech synthetics. Because these items wick away moisture and resist bacteria, you can wear them multiple times before washing. They also dry faster, so you don’t have to pack wet clothes.
