A perfect travel sandal comes in many shapes and styles. First, you must determine the type of travel for which you are planning. You may choose a sandal that is most comfortable in the backcountry, but you may not want to wear it when trying to look cute in a summer dress walking the cobblestone streets in Rome.

The Sporty Sandal

The active sandal is probably the most important sandal purchase. Things to consider are comfort, durability and wear. Most important functionality to consider is for the sandal to be securely worn on the feet. You don’t want your sandal to fly off during a rafting trip or get lost in the river you may be crossing on a backpacking expedition. The sporty Chaco z/Cloud 2 sandals are a great option for any outdoorsy adventure, and the recently added ultra-soft cushioning will provide even more support.

The Hipster Sandal

You better believe it: Birkenstocks are making a comeback! They disappeared from the limelight for a few years, but they can be spotted more so now than ever across Europe, the United States and Australia. Not the most affordable sandal on the market, but the comfort and durability justify the price. There is a wide selection of styles and patterns to fit your personal style. You can wear them with a casual outfit to the beach and even with a summer dress in Rome.

The Trendy Sandal

Having a great sandal for all the walking you will do while checking out the sites in Europe is something that can make a difference between an amazing day or a miserable one. You still want to look cute but have the most comfort. There are so many options. Some great brands to consider are Dr. Scholl’sAerosoles or Clarks.

A good general rule is to stay clear of plastic shoes in the summer, even though some may be cute, and always be sure to break in any sandal before taking it out for hours at a time.
