REI Lightweight Waterproof Dry Sacks

REI’s lightweight waterproof dry sacks are the perfect solution to keeping your gear or clothing dry in your backpack.

The sacks come in several sizes, so it’s easy to find something that fits your needs. There are options for 5-, 10-, 15- and 25-liter bags and several color options. All have roll-top closure systems that help you squeeze out air and compact the bag’s items while sealing it for waterproofing when you’re finished packing.

Just be sure to roll the bag’s top three times before you buckle it to keep contents dry; this should also factor in to your buying process, as you’ll need a bag big enough to fit everything you need while also having extra space to roll it shut.

The bags are made with waterproof rip-stop nylon and feature welded seams for more protection. REI does say you should double-bag electronics for greater protection, which would seem to indicate the bags are not 100 percent guaranteed to be waterproof. Still, field testing kept items dry over time, so it’s probably just a safety measure.

The bags need to be kept safe from sharp objects and are unable to be submerged. For boating, opt for a dry bag specifically tailored for that use.
