If you’ve ever been discouraged from going on an adventure due to lacking the necessary and sometimes expensive gear, Alite Gear has a great initiative for you. The outdoor brand set up its Ranger Station more than a year ago, allowing people to “rent” camping gear for the weekend.

The Ranger Station offers sets of camping gear which you can take out for the weekend at no cost; just leave your credit card as a deposit in case of any damage. Tae Kim, the founder of Alite, was inspired to create the program after finding a lending library for power tools near his home.

“If people can borrow tools, try them out and use them for various work projects on a free rental basis … why the heck can’t we do it for camping gear,” he says.

At the moment there are three camping packs available from the Ranger Station: a beginner’s car camping kit, an intermediate kit suitable for hiking and a newly introduced advanced backpacking kit. Each kit contains all of the necessary items for campers to enjoy a weekend in the wild, encouraging more people to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

Simply visit the Alite website in order to find out more and reserve a kit. At the moment the gear is only available at the Alite store in downtown San Francisco, but it is a great idea which Alite plans to take to other cities next year.
