Sharing is caring, especially in the world of travel. Travelers share everything from homes to bikes to cars and, with this trend, comes an opportunity to expand by renting out alternative styles of lodging and a variety of vehicles, a notion not lost on Peter Zawadzki who came up with a way to take classic cars out of their pristine garage protection and on to the open road.
Through an app called Classics & Exotics, Zawadski sought out classic cars through Hagerty, a company that insures classic vehicles and provides services to these old cars with a higher potential to break down or experience on-the-road problems. From this collaboration came DriveShare, a national car-sharing program that currently offers interested drivers access to 600 cars throughout the United States.
Upgrades and tweaks were performed on select vintage cars so they would be modern-day road-ready, and now drivers can rent favorites like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Cadillacs and Lincolns, with rates ranging $100–2,500 per day. Although approximately 25 percent of DriveShare’s business comes from advertising agencies or photographers who rent the cars for photo shoots or promotions, the other 75 percent are rented for celebrations such as birthdays, weddings and vacations.
