Destinations / North America

Most Atlanta hikers head to nearby Stone Mountain or the North Georgia Mountains to spend the day on the trail. Or you can stick around and explore a trail peppered with old toys and doll’s heads at the aptly named Doll’s Head Trail at Constitution Lakes Park.

Once an abandoned 19th-century brick factory, Constitution Lakes Park now features multiple options crossing over paved, unpaved and boardwalk trails. Take in the scenic marshy lakes and veer off for a short loop along Doll’s Head Trail.

The short loop features old toys, tiles and discarded rocks leading to an area with a cabinet often filled with art supplies. The trail is a perfect getaway from the city where you can create some artwork right on the path from found objects.

Along the way, enjoy the art inspired by Atlanta resident Joel Slaton. The folk artist created the trail and other hikers soon started leaving behind discarded doll’s heads and other items. The end result is an unusual exhibit of found objects in a park often overlooked in Atlanta. Many long-time locals don’t even realize the park is there and are surprised to find it off the bustling Moreland Avenue near the city’s quirky drive-in Starlight Theater.
